Matilde Cigars

The Matilde cigar brand was founded in 1876 in Santiago de Los Caballeros and relaunched by the Seijas family in 2014.

Their story begins with the founder, Jose Seijas. His passion for cigars started in 1974 when he was hired by Consolidated Cigar Corporation to establish the industrial engineering department. One of his early tasks was to oversee tobacco sorting, selection, and stripping, which allowed him to become familiar with tobacco.

Four years later, he was transferred to La Compania Insular Tabacalera, located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he immersed himself in the complete cigar manufacturing process for the first time. Jose spent three years there before being transferred to La Romana to work at Tabacalera de Garcia, where he became the Vice President of Operations and Master Blender until his retirement at the end of 2011.
